De Baec (deh-back) was opened in 2022 with the goal of creating quality candles using artisanal practices and premium materials. Over the last two years, the product line has expanded to include various home fragrance products and brasswear. At De Baec, we believe that quality home fragrance should bring hours of warmth, peace, and luxury to your space without intruding it with busy designs, toxic smoke, and harsh scents.

Our products are carefully made using a simplistic design, clean ingredients, and curated scents with bold fragrance pairings. Each product is hand-blended, poured, and packaged using artisanal techniques. Our candles are carefully tested to ensure an exceptionally even and long-lasting burn with a subtle yet captivating scent throw.

Ultimately, we hope to participate in the home fragrance industry’s long awaited shift from mass-marketed products created with socially and environmentally unconscious materials, to an industry that values and prioritizes our wellbeing through creative practice and the mindful sourcing of non-toxic, renewable, recyclable, biodegradable, and reusable materials.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • De Baec is a woman-owned and woman-led business.

    Meet your Chandler

  • We are passionate about what we do. De Baec products are hand-blended and poured in small batches from our studio in the Pacific Northwest. We practice artisanal candle-making techniques using modern materials. We individually blend, pour, finish, and wrap every candle, diffuser, and fragrance with love and care.

  • We respect our planet. We prioritize domestically sourced materials from suppliers that engage in sustainable practices, with an emphasis on eco-conscious packaging that is free of plastics, toxic dies, and toxic adhesives. Our sustainable soy wax is obtained from a manufacturer that uses renewable ingredients and practices. Additionally, our container candles include cotton wicks that are domestically manufactured using materials sourced within the USA. Fragrance oils and essential oils are sourced from domestic suppliers and are manufactured in the USA. At a minimum, De Baec packaging is recyclable and/or reusable, with many components being naturally biodegradable and backyard compostable. Read more about our suppliers and materials here.

  • De Baec candles are formulated using the highest quality ingredients for a cleaner burn. Paraben-free/phthalate-free soy wax, beeswax, clean-burning cotton wicks result in a beautifully simplistic design that is free of excessive smoke and soot. Our natural diffuser base is VOC-free and free of Prop 65 ingredients. Our fragrance mist is created using organic grape alcohol. Waxes, diffusers, and fragrance mists are scented with carefully curated blends of natural essential oils and premium phthalate- and paraben-free fragrance oils.

  • De Baec fragrances are uniquely curated and blended to create a soft, balanced aroma to stimulate your senses without overwhelming them. Fragrance pairings and loads are carefully tested to ensure the most pleasant olfactory experience possible. De Baec strives to regularly debut new aromas with unique scent pairings to compliment our ever-changing landscapes, seasonal traditions, and fragrance trends.

Our candles, diffusers, and room sprays are scented using blends of natural essential oils and phthalate-free fragrance oils. They are used at International Fragrance Association (IFRA) compliant concentrations in our candles and room sprays. IFRA promotes the safe and enjoyable use of fragrances in various consumer products. Read more about IFRA’s goals and objectives here.

We are currently shifting our product descriptions to include a full list of included essential oils and various fragrance allergens. We believe that product transparency is important for safe and enjoyable use of fragranced products, especially for those with known allergies or sensitivities.

  • Ingredients are carefully selected and tested to ensure an even burn that results in a subtle scent throw and extended burn time so your candle can be enjoyed for hours on end. Cotton and wood wicks are desirable choices of wick due to their slow, even burn. Soy wax and beeswax are widely known for being two of the slowest burning candle waxes on the market.

The burn time of our candles varies depending on care. Soy wax is a softer wax that easily drips and will decrease the overall burn time of our sculptural candles if not properly cared for. We recently transitioned our pure soy wax sculptural candles to a blend of soy wax and beeswax for increased burn time and reduced dripping.

HONORING MOTHERS

Born Katherine Bax, my mama had a petite frame and a grand personality. She was tough, bold, and fearless - although sometimes so bold that she was downright reckless.

She was wild at heart, but carried a peaceful soul. She was an avid writer, meditator, and lover of a good bubble bath. She genuinely enjoyed the little things in life, turning to them in the face of all adversity. She became giddy with excitement for trinkets, tiny keepsakes, and flowers which were often carefully displayed on tabletops and shelves across her living space. In the evenings, you could find her bundled in her tiny, outdated apartment with a good book, a glass of wine, and at least one lit candle in sight.

There was always a sense of peace and luxury that overtook the room when she simply lit a candle and we sat quietly captivated by its flame. She showed me that a good candle adds beauty, warmth, and luxury to even the most humble of spaces. She taught me that a single flame can bring so much light in times of darkness.

De Baec was created as a long-awaited tribute to my mama. The subtle ingredients, fragrances, and designs are paired with various flowers, keepsakes, and ornate trinkets. They are all chosen as an embodiment of her style and personality - subtle yet bold, peaceful yet wild - found only in a whimsical place where minimalism meets maximalism.

By 2024, De Baec aims to donate 3% of all profits to women’s shelters and programs that support the well-being of mothers and children.
