ECO-CONSCIOUS MATERIALS

Transparency is important to us. We sincerely care about our social and environmental impact and hope our customers can hold us accountable as we navigate implementing new and improved practices that hold our earth and wellbeing in mind. We encourage you to peruse our materials, practices, and goals. Please contact us if you have questions, concerns, or want to share alternatives that you would like to see us use in the future.

  • Carcinogen-free, phthalate-free, mutagen-free, non-toxic, vegan, biodegradable, skin safe, and cruelty-free. Manufactured using renewable ingredients and practices. Domestically sourced for reduced shipping distances.

  • Our home fragrance mists are created with a base of all-natural, organic, and GMO-free grape alcohol. It is sustainability manufactured in the USA by our supplier.

Our diffuser base is formulated by our supplier with no parabens, phthalates, or VOC content. It is GMO-free, allergen-free, and free of Prop 65 ingredients. This proprietary blend is made in the USA.

  • The pure beeswax used in our sculptural candles is domestically sourced. Beeswax is also a renewable product that is non-toxic and skin safe.

  • Our supplier manufactures their cotton wicks in the USA using domestically-sourced materials.

  • All-natural fragrance oils and essential oils are challenging to use. They often result in less powerful scent throw and have limited scent options. While we would love to go all-natural, we use synthetic fragrances to increase our variety and create candles that you can easily smell. We always prioritize natural when we feel we can without compromising the integrity of our smells. All of our fragrances are phthalate-free (synthetic and natural fragrance oils, essential oils). They are locally and/or domestically sourced to cut down on shipping distances for reduced environmental impact. However, it is important to note that many essential oils are imported by USA-based suppliers from various countries around the world. We do our best to include this information in our ingredients, listed on each product page for your reference.

Essential oils and fragrance oils are harmful to our soil and water if improperly disposed of. We practice proper disposal of our fragrance oils when making our candles and encourage all customers to do the same. Visit our Candle Care page to read more about clean-up and disposal of your candles and diffusers.

  • Our reeds are domestically manufactured using rattan from the USA. Rattan is a naturally renewable material.

  • The glass components of our candle vessels, fragrance mist bottles, and diffuser bottles are fully reusable and recyclable. Our Petite candle vessels are domestically sourced/manufactured and are shipped to us using carbon-neutral shipping practices. However, our Grande black tins, spray bottles, and diffuser bottles are unfortunately imported by our supplier from China. We are currently exploring sources for candle vessels and diffuser vessels that are locally made in order to further reduce our environmental impact - a difficult but welcomed challenge!

  • We prioritize recyclable packaging at minimum, but strive for fully biodegradable packaging. Our packing peanuts are made from corn starch and are sent to us using carbon-neutral shipping practices. We reuse any biodegradable packing peanuts that are included in our carbon-neutral vessel shipments. Our shipping boxes and tape are fully recyclable and biogegradable. The tape is made from white kraft paper, utilizes a starch adhesive, and is printed with soy-based ink for soil-friendly composting. The tissue paper included in our packages is made from recycled paper and is fully recyclable and backyard compostable.

  • Our scented candles are packaged in kraft boxes that are domestically manufactured using recycled post-consumer waste and are naturally biodegradable. Our washi tape is made from rice paper and printed with soy based ink, making them backyard compostable. Our tissue paper is recyclable and backyard compostable. As of April 2023, our candle care cards are handmade from recycled paper by a small, USA based business and are recyclable and biodegradable. These cards are placed in a glassine envelope, as they are made from wood pulp and are fully biodegradable. All candles and diffusers are packaged with warning labels that are recyclable, backyard compostable, and made with 100% FSC approved paper.

  • Our wick clips are required to be metal, a material that can withstand high temperatures and will help the wick stay straight and centered with a sturdy base.

We use wick stickers to secure our wicks, which unfortunately are not recyclable or biodegradable at this time. We have not found any earth-friendly alternatives for wick stickers yet.

One small component of plastic in our products is the plug included on all diffuser vessel containers. This is required to prevent the liquid from spilling from the vessel prior to using.

ROOM FOR GROWTH

Our goal is to transition all materials to recycled, recyclable, and biodegradable/compostable alternatives by seeking suppliers that use soil-friendly soy/algae based inks and starch-based adhesives. However, we find that our wick clips, wick stickers, and plastic diffuser plugs may need to be excluded from this goal until better alternatives are available. For wick stickers, strong adhesive is required to withstand the heat so that your wick stays centered near the end of your burn. We feel it is most important to aim for less waste during candle making and increased safety during burning by ensuring that wicks are properly secured.

We continually strive to source materials as geographically local to our candle studio as possible in order to reduce the environmental impact caused by shipping long distances. This has proved to be challenging as a small business, specifically with our vessels.
